"My plan was cancelled. Now I worry how long I'll live."

Heartbreaking truth, from Stage-4 gallbladder cancer sufferer, Edie Littlefield Sundby, in the Wall Street Journal:
Before the Affordable Care Act, health-insurance policies could not be sold across state lines; now policies sold on the Affordable Care Act exchanges may not be offered across county lines.

What happened to the president's promise, "You can keep your health plan"? Or to the promise that "You can keep your doctor"? Thanks to the law, I have been forced to give up a world-class health plan. The exchange would force me to give up a world-class physician.

For a cancer patient, medical coverage is a matter of life and death. Take away people's ability to control their medical-coverage choices and they may die. I guess that's a highly effective way to control medical costs. Perhaps that's the point.

I did not know that ObamaCare prevents competition now across even county lines.

Liberals argue that all private health insurance plans are the "bad-apples" and are the "exploding Ford Pintos" that need to be eliminated.

The one thing that would have eliminated any bad, gouging, unfair, private insurance plans? Eliminate the state-line barrier, allowing insurance plans to compete with every other plan nationwide. Then someone in a state with lousy plans could buy one from the state whose plans worked fantastic, and the lousy plans would end or be improved in order to compete.

American market forces at their best. But noooooooo, Obama can't have that! That's the other ugly C word: CAPITALISM, working like it should. And that's the opposite of--wait for it--SOCIALISM. Or more accurately, STATISM:
What is the opposite of capitalism?

Statism, in any form. Statism is the concentration of power in the state at the expense of individual freedom. Capitalism is the only system which protects individual rights and freedom, but the variety of political systems which violate individual freedom are numerous: socialism, communism, fascism, Nazism, absolute monarchies, military dictatorships, theocracies, or the welfare state are all systems which infringe upon individual rights, which means they institutionalize the initiation of force against their citizens. It must be realized that there are only two fundamental political philosophies: those who are for freedom and individual rights and those who are against them. The types of political systems who are against freedom and individual rights are numerous, for there are many ways to violate the rights of man, but there is only one political-economic philosophy which upholds that the rights of man are absolute and immutable -- capitalism.

Eliminating state-line barriers to insurance competition also would have taken, oh, about a PAGE to enact that law. That wouldn't have given Obama his shining, signature-legislation, legacy-ensuring. eponymous, grandiose, transforming tribute that is Obamacare.

But remedy the bad plans or eliminate them in favor of the good ones, oh, yes, that, it would have done, and without the vast opportunities for identity theft or fraud, waste and abuse:

From The New York Times:

Lawmakers heard about a bizarre case in which a North Carolina man using the federal website received a government letter addressed to a stranger in South Carolina who had applied for insurance on the exchange. The North Carolina man was able to download and view information intended for the South Carolina man, even though the men had no connection to each other.
And another piece of horrible news from, oh my, gasp, The New York Times, again:
"The Affordable Care Act is the biggest new health care program in decades, but the Obama administration has ruled that neither the federal insurance exchange nor the federal subsidies paid to insurance companies on behalf of low-income people are 'federal health care programs.' The surprise decision, disclosed last week, exempts subsidized health insurance from a law that bans rebates, kickbacks, bribes and certain other financial arrangements in federal health programs, stripping law enforcement of a powerful tool used to fight fraud in other health care programs, like Medicare."
So ObamaCare is wiiiiiide open for people to defraud (i.e, cost taxpayers millions more in lost costs) via bribes, kickbacks and other under-the-table, grease-my-palms schemes... and the FBI and other law enforcement agencies can't do a blessed THING about it. Lovely. All because the Obama administration has "ruled" this to be so. Where the hell is Congress in all this? Nice how Obama gets whatever he wants, including buying votes of low-income people with such "protection" from the law. And you thought there was too much fraud with Medicare and Medicaid? Silly you.

If I had to choose between getting on the exchanges and going without insurance, I think I'd go without insurance, have an accountant continue to do my taxes yearly, and just make sure my taxes were calibrated so I'd never have a refund from which they could deduct the penalty, rather than subject myself to inevitable risk identity theft/security breaches/fraud-enabling like that.

And speaking (earlier) of car analogies:

If Obama had signed the Affordable Car Act and now presided over Obamacar, he would be running around telling Ford Focus owners, “You don’t need that substandard vehicle. The Lincoln-Continental MKZ Hybrid is better for you. It offers federally mandated essential automotive benefits, such as leather-trimmed seats, an adaptive suspension, and hands-free Bluetooth accessories. Yes, the Ford costs $16,310, while the Lincoln is $36,190. But let me be perfectly clear: You may qualify for subsidies!”
Kathleen Parker, of the liberal-leaning Washington Post, calls Obama out on his falsity-upon-new-falsity:
[Obama's] sin of omission wasn’t an accidental oversight. It was a feint because many Americans wouldn’t have followed the wizard [of Oz] had they known the truth.

There’s a reason the ACA implemented the popular aspects of the bill first — allowing parents to cover their children until age 26 and eliminating their children’s preexisting-condition barrier to insurance coverage — before the 2012 election and postponed the nasty news until enough people were hooked on Obamacare’s sugar. And, of course, after the president was reelected. This is what Republicans were referring to when they wanted to impede the law before the rollout because people might like it. Sugar is addictive after all.

Former Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau tried to explain otherwise. The president kept repeating the promise — some 23 times — because the White House was trying to keep things simple so as not to confuse people with too many details, he said. This is not only insulting on its face but also not precisely true. Some might have been alarmed by the details, but they wouldn’t have been confused. Either the White House doesn’t have faith in the people or it doesn’t have faith in its own plan.

To sum up, the American people were duped; the administration did not misspeak, as the New York Times editorialized. The administration knowingly misled with a false promise and a deliberate omission. Worse, it did so for your own good because you might be confused by the truth. Call it what you will.

And if you watch the supercut of the 23 times Obama said the lie in public (which The Washington Post gives the maximum Four Pinocchios"), he actually says "your private insurance" at least twice.

BUT- IT ISN'T JUST THE PRIVATE INSURANCE PLANS BEING AFFECTED!

  1. Of the much larger group of Americans who are insured through employer-based plans, between half and two-thirds will lose their coverage because of the new health-care law. In all, the number of Americans who will lose their plans is estimated to hit tens of millions. There simply is no way to square these facts with the promise of “If you like your insurance, you can keep it.” These estimates were listed on page 34,552 of the Federal Register; perhaps they were overlooked.
  2. But on June 17, 2010, Obama’s own Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) published a notice in the Federal Register saying, “The Department’s mid-range estimate is that 66 percent of small employer plans and 45 percent of large employer plans will relinquish their grandfather status by the end of 2013.” That adds up to 51 percent of employer-provided health insurance plans that would become illegal and terminated under Obamacare. Counting both the employer provided and individual health insurance markets, Avik Roy of Forbes calculates that means that

altogether 93 million Americans will lose their health insurance under Obamacare.

  3. From Bloomberg News:
A lot of folks with employer-sponsored insurance are also going to see their insurance changed, though not quite as quickly. And not “The benefits will get so much more awesome!” but “The Cadillac tax kicked in and we had to drop most of our plans except for the ones with high deductibles.” A friend who sits on the benefits committees of two organizations says that their experts predict that pretty much all plans will end up being of the “consumer-driven” (read: high-deductible) model once the so-called Cadillac tax kicks in.
  4. The final judgment may be in the hands of people who now have employer-provided health insurance. They're about half the population, and they've noted Obama's assurances that their coverage won't be disrupted.

Up to now, the changes for employer plans have been incremental...But cost control provisions, mainly a tax on expensive insurance plans that starts in 2018, are converging with the long-standing push by employers to tame health costs. Some companies have raised deductibles and copayments for employees, saying they need to scale back to avoid tangling with the coming tax. Others are giving employees a fixed amount of money to shop in private health insurance markets that resemble those created by the law.

Now I have the proof as to why my premiums alone jumped $1,000 annually over last year, for the same, exact, employer-provided health insurance. Bet yours jumped too, and I bet yours and mine will jump again this coming year and every year.

"Obamacare is the largest transfer of wealth in recent American history. But you can’t say that openly lest you lose elections. So you do it by subterfuge: hidden taxes, penalties, mandates and coverage requirements that yield a surplus of overpayments."

PS, from the National Review:
(Before the Left breathlessly excavates its “Bush lied, people died” cue cards, they should remember that scores of leaders across the political spectrum thought Saddam Hussein stockpiled weapons of mass death.

Then-senators Hillary Clinton (D., N.Y.), John Kerry (D., Mass.), 27 other Senate Democrats, and 82 House Democrats believed this (or they all lied, too) and voted to follow Bush into war. So did the chiefs of 33 foreign countries. They all were disinformed by the late Saddam Hussein, who had WMDs, although fewer than anticipated by Bush, Clinton, Kerry, 107 other Democrats, and America’s allies.

Indeed, many of Hussein’s own generals considered his arsenal far more ferocious than it was. This grossly exaggerated perception of Baathist strength helped Hussein intimidate his neighbors far more effectively than if they had known the truth. In fact, one could say far more accurately: “Hussein lied, people died.”) [emphases my own]

"I would now like to say a special word to women who have had an abortion...[many are] aware of the many factors which may have influenced your decision, and [do] not doubt that it was a painful and even shattering decision. The wound in your heart may not yet have healed. Certainly what happened was and remains terribly wrong. But do not give in to discouragement and do not lose hope. Try rather to understand what happened and face it honestly. If you have not already done so, give yourselves over with humility and trust to repentance. The Father of mercies is ready to give you his forgiveness and his peace...You will come to understand that nothing is definitively lost and you will also be able to ask forgiveness from your child..."

1) The First Amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

"The Free Exercise Clause reserves the right of American citizens to accept any religious belief and engage in religious rituals. The wording in the free-exercise clauses of state constitutions that religious “[o]pinion, expression of opinion, and practice were all expressly protected” by the Free Exercise Clause.[1] The clause protects not just religious beliefs but actions made on behalf of those beliefs. More importantly, the wording of state constitutions suggest that “free exercise envisions religiously compelled exemptions from at least some generally applicable laws.”[2] The Free Exercise Clause not only protects religious belief and expression; it also seems to allow for violation of laws, as long as that violation is made for religious reasons."

2) Article 18 of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, signed by the U.S.A. in 1948, states: "Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance."

3) Article 19 of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights: "Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers."
